The Athens (Piraeus) to Amorgos Crossing
Blue Star Ferries overnight conventional ferries from Piraeus to Katapola and Aigiali on Amorgos; the route passes the outer Cyclades via Naxos or Paros and crosses the fully exposed eastern Cyclades approach; also served by Hellenic Seaways catamarans in summer on an exposed crossing highly sensitive to Meltemi
The crossing takes 8–10 hours by overnight conventional ferry via the southern Cyclades. 3–4 departures per week; one of the less frequently connected major Cyclades islands; winter service is significantly reduced
Sea Conditions and Beaufort Exposure
Amorgos is at the eastern extreme of the Cyclades and its approaches from the north are fully exposed to the Meltemi; the outer Cyclades between Naxos and Amorgos are among the most disrupted sections of the Aegean ferry network in July–August; catamarans to Amorgos have a high cancellation rate; Blue Star overnight ferries are the reliable choice
Booking and Tickets
book overnight cabins well in advance in summer; always have a contingency for cancelled catamaran services in July–August; Amorgos has no airport — the ferry is the only way in and out
Arrival
two ports on Amorgos: Katapola (west coast, main port, closest to Chora) and Aigiali (north coast, beach and village); most ferries call at both; the Chozoviotissa monastery is a 30-minute walk from the path junction above Katapola
