The Athens (Piraeus) to Alonissos Crossing

Hellenic Seaways high-speed catamarans and conventional car ferries from Piraeus to Alonissos via Skiathos and Skopelos; Alonissos is the northernmost point of the main Sporades ferry route and all connections call at both earlier Sporades islands first

The crossing takes 4.5–6 hours calling at Skiathos and Skopelos; some services route via Agios Konstantinos rather than Piraeus. 1–2 daily in peak summer from Piraeus; additional services from Agios Konstantinos (central Greece); winter frequency drops significantly

Sea Conditions and Beaufort Exposure

the northern Aegean Sporades route is moderately sheltered by the Pelion peninsula and Euboea; medium Beaufort exposure — calmer than Cyclades routes but susceptible to northern gales; summer reliability is generally good

Booking and Tickets

some travellers prefer to route via Agios Konstantinos (bus from Athens, 2.5 hours) rather than Piraeus as it avoids the Athens city crossing; ticket for the entire Athens-to-Alonissos journey can be planned as bus+ferry via Agios Konstantinos or direct ferry from Piraeus

Arrival

Patitiri (Alonissos main port) is a functional harbour with good tavernas on the waterfront; old Chora village is on the hilltop above — 20 minutes by foot or local bus; monk seal boat tours depart from Patitiri in summer — book in advance
