Accessible Ferry Travel in Greece
Complete guide to accessible ferry travel in Greece. Which operators have elevators and accessible cabins, how to request priority boarding, and what to expect at Greek ferry ports.
Accessible Ferry Travel in Greece
Greece's large ferry operators have invested significantly in accessibility. Wheelchair users board via the vehicle ramp on the car deck level — flat, wide, and accessible — and reach passenger decks via multi-deck elevators on the main Blue Star and Minoan fleets. Priority boarding is available from most major operators and should be arranged in advance when booking.
Blue Star Ferries Accessibility
Blue Star Ferries is the most accessible major operator on the Greek ferry network. The main fleet (Blue Star Patmos, Blue Star Chios, Blue Star Delos, Diagoras) has vehicle ramp boarding, multi-deck passenger elevators, accessible cabins with wide doors and adapted bathrooms, accessible deck seating areas, priority boarding, and accessible restrooms on all decks. Accessible cabins are limited and should be booked as early as possible — they sell out months ahead in summer season.
Booking and Port Logistics
When booking an accessible ferry, note your requirements clearly at the time of booking and follow up by phone with the operator to confirm accessible cabin allocation and priority boarding arrangements. At Piraeus (Athens main port), Gate E7–E9 for Blue Star departures has accessible waiting areas and designated assistance points. Arrive at the port at least 60–90 minutes before sailing to allow time to locate the vehicle ramp boarding area before the general boarding rush begins.
