Accessible Beaches in Greece

Guide to accessible beaches in Greece. SEATRAC sea-entry devices, wheelchair matting, beach wheelchair loan schemes, and the best accessible beaches by island.

Greece's Accessible Beach Programme

Greece's national Accessible Sea (Προσβάσιμη Θάλασσα) programme has expanded significantly. Fully equipped accessible beaches have rubber matting tracks from the parking area to the waterline, SEATRAC sea-entry devices (mechanical rail and seat allowing independent sea entry for wheelchair users), amphibious beach wheelchairs available free from municipal services, and accessible changing rooms and showers.

Best Accessible Beaches by Island

Kos has several Blue Flag beaches with official matting and beach wheelchairs, including Tigaki and Mastichari. Rhodes municipality has invested heavily: Elli Beach in Rhodes Town has SEATRAC, Faliraki has matting and beach wheelchair loan. Multiple Crete north coast beaches have accessible facilities (Amoudara Heraklion, Agia Marina Chania). Corfu resort beaches including Dassia and Kontokali have accessible matting. On Mykonos, Ornos and Platis Gialos are the most accessible beaches.

Confirm Before You Visit

Beach accessibility equipment is installed seasonally (typically June–September) and can vary year to year as funding and maintenance schedules change. Always call the local municipality or tourism office before visiting to confirm the SEATRAC is operational, beach wheelchairs are available, and matting is installed. Do not assume from previous years' listings that equipment is still in place.

Getting to accessible beaches on most islands is straightforward with a little planning. Local taxis on Kos, Rhodes, and Crete are familiar with the accessible beach locations and can drop you at the matting track entrance. On smaller islands, your accommodation host will know which facilities are operating and in good condition that season — local knowledge is more reliable than any online listing.
