Sani Festival — World-Class Music at Dusk on the Halkidiki Coast

The Sani Festival is one of Greece's most prestigious international music festivals — held each summer at Sani Resort in Halkidiki, approximately 65 km south-east of Thessaloniki. The festival presents jazz, classical, world music, and international artists across multiple summer evenings in an open-air setting beside a Macedonian wetland and private beach. Past editions have featured international jazz legends, major classical soloists, and world music performers. The Sani Resort provides five-star hotel accommodation and a marina for yacht arrivals, making it an integrated luxury festival destination.

Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" (SKG) is approximately 1 hour from Sani Resort by car. Sani Resort accommodation sells out quickly — book concert dates and rooms together well in advance. Halkidiki Beyond the Resort

The Halkidiki peninsula extends as three "legs" into the northern Aegean — Kassandra in the west, Sithonia in the centre, and Athos in the east. Sani Resort is on the Kassandra peninsula, closest to Thessaloniki. The Sithonia peninsula — less developed, more forested, and significantly less visited — has camping coves and fishing villages that operate on a different scale to the resort peninsula. Athos is the third peninsula, occupied entirely by the monastic community of Mount Athos — an autonomous republic operating under Byzantine rules, inaccessible to women, and requiring a specific visiting permit (diamonitirion) available to men through the Pilgrims' Bureau in Thessaloniki.

Thessaloniki, 65 km north, is worth at least two days alongside the Sani Festival visit. The White Tower, the Byzantine churches and walls, the Aristotelous Square waterfront, the Roman-era Rotunda and Arch of Galerius, and the extraordinary food culture of the city (bougatsa, soutzoukakia, the Modiano market) constitute one of the most substantive city itineraries in Greece. The Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum houses one of the finest collections of Macedonian gold jewellery and artefacts in the world. The ancient Macedonian royal tombs at Vergina (Aegae) — where Philip II of Macedon was buried — are 80 km west, a UNESCO World Heritage Site worth a half-day.

The Sani Festival programme is published at sanifestival.gr in spring, with concert dates and artists announced progressively through April and May. Headline concerts sell out quickly — buy tickets and book resort accommodation simultaneously as soon as the programme is announced. The festival's position on the Sani peninsula — surrounded by a protected wetland and the Sani marina — means that the resort ambience is fully part of the experience, not separate from it. Concert arrivals by private boat to the marina are a Sani Festival tradition for yacht-touring guests in the area.
