What Makes an Island Good for E-Bike Travel

The best e-bike islands in Greece combine manageable distances, varied terrain, enough road network to enable genuine circular routes, and infrastructure (accommodation, cafes, basic services) spread across the island rather than concentrated in a single resort area. Islands that are entirely flat offer less reward for the electric assist. Islands that are too mountainous push even assisted cycling beyond casual range. The sweet spot: islands with rolling hills, coastal roads, inland villages, and distances between 30 and 80 kilometres end to end.

Naxos: The Best Overall E-Bike Island

Naxos is the largest Cyclades island at approximately 50 kilometres long, with a road network that genuinely rewards exploration. The interior mountain villages — Apeiranthos, Halki, Filoti — are connected by roads that climb through terraced farmland and cedar forests, and the electric assist makes these climbs comfortable rather than punishing. The western coast beaches (Agios Prokopios, Plaka) are accessible by flat coastal road. A two-day e-bike circuit of Naxos — coast one day, interior the next — is one of the best ways to experience the island.

Milos: Dramatic Geology by Bike

Milos has the most varied geology of any Cyclades island and it is genuinely spectacular from a bicycle. The route from Adamas (the main port) to Sarakiniko (the lunar white rock formation) is approximately 8 kilometres of rolling road with sea views throughout. The Klima fishing village, with its boathouses carved directly into the volcanic rock face, is a 20-minute ride from the port. Milos is compact enough to circuit in a single day of e-bike riding.

Kefalonia: Greece's Most Scenic Coastal Roads

Kefalonia is larger than typical Cyclades islands (Ionian Sea, off the west coast of mainland Greece) but has some of the most scenic coastal roads in Greece. The route from Argostoli south to the Lourdata beach, and north along the coast to Myrtos — the most photographed beach in the Ionian — involves genuine climbs that reward the electric assist. Kefalonia has better e-bike hire infrastructure than most Greek islands, with several specialist operators in Argostoli.

Paros: Social Scene and Good Roads

Paros has a well-maintained road network and distances that make a full island e-bike circuit feasible in a single day. The route from Parikia through Lefkes (a beautiful inland marble-paved village) and along the eastern coast to Naoussa covers most of the island's highlights. Naoussa has multiple cafes for a midday stop. The island is flat enough in the coastal areas for beginners and hilly enough in the interior for the motor assist to be genuinely useful.
